The goal of my 3-year phD project (2016-2019) is to analyse and describe the fire history of boreal forests during Holocene in Russia (3 areas: Komi Republic, Karelia and Lake Baïkal region). This analysis will be carried out through the study of charcoal from lake or peat cores. The history of the vegetation and the composition of the forest in these zones, as well as the different types of successions that will be brought to light, thanks to palynology. Then the pollen data and the use of independent climate data will allow the reconstruction of the past climate for these regions. This project is related to the PREREAL project http://www.prereal.org/index.htm which aims to identify climatic drivers controlling boreal fire activity and its predictability and to translate these into impacts on ecosystem services and metrics of socio-economic performance.
