My thesis project, a joint venture between the Palaeontology and Developmental Biology & Evolution teams, focuses on mammalian dental enamel. Its complex microstructure is extensively used in (palaeo)mammalogy as a phylogenetic and/or functional marker.

However, microstructure’s three-dimensional architecture is only reachable since quite recently, and it is a fundamental tool for understanding and interpreting its organisation and evolution. Thanks to a new 3-D microstructure visualisation and simulation methodology, I try to expand our knowledge about enamel formation, architecture, and evolutionary implications for extant and extinct taxa.
