The topic of my PhD is the evolution of female attractiveness in human societies. Female attractiveness is linked to several cues of health and fecundity. For example, facial symmetry, considered as a cue of genetic quality, increases attractiveness. Sex-specific features, linked to estrogen ratio (and so to fertility), have also an effect on attractiveness. My work consists in identifying the evolutionary causes of the various components of female attractiveness. Besides features linked to fecundity, I am interested in the effects of parental investment and fidelity in mate choice. Finally, it would be interesting to test if mating preferences are linked to environmental conditions and if they vary between societies.
