I am doing my PhD with Brian CHASE. The goal of my research is to reconstruct and quantify southern African (South Africa, Botswana, Namibia) climate changes since the last glaciation. Nowadays, the area is situated at the boundary between tropical and temperate systems. This particular position makes it particularly sensitive to monitor past global changes. My work can be decomposed into 3 main axes:

  1. Developping a statistical method to infer quantitative climate variations by combining the probability of occurrence of different plants; the link between plant and climate is based on the modern correlation between geographical distribution and the associated climate.
  2. Developping a software (CREST) to use that method in a easy-to-use point-and-click Framework.
  3. Using that method in as many sites as possible (pollinic data extracted from different paleoarchives) to increase the quantity of data available for the study area.

Improving the knowledge of our study area will improve the knowledge of the changes that occured in the southern hemisphere as well as in the entire world.
